Maryann Schugmann, CPA, formerly a Partner at Kahn, Hoffman & Hochman, LLP, joined the firm in January 2011 as a Tax Partner in the New City office.  Ms. Schugmann directs both the Trust and Estate Division and the individual tax group within the New City office.  Long considered a specialization within tax, trusts and estates involves more than tax returns.  Estate and succession planning help to expedite the process of transferring assets to the intended beneficiaries while minimizing gift and estate taxes.  Estate Administration incorporates guidance for the Executor, marshalling of assets, paying creditors, paying estate and inheritance taxes, funding testamentary trusts, distributing the assets to beneficiaries and preparing fiduciary accountings in compliance with the Surrogate's Court.

The increasing complexity of the tax code has made estate and succession planning critical elements in financial planning.  Ms. Schugmann is highly acclaimed within the legal and accounting community for her expertise and has been instrumental in the growth the firm has experienced in these disciplines.  Ms. Schugmann not only has the technical ability to excel in this field, she also has the interpersonal skills required when dealing with clients at a time when emotions may impact decisions.

Ms. Schugmann is also the Partner-in-Charge of the individual (1040) tax department in the New City office and manages the resources of that department to meet all filing deadlines while satisfying the needs and expectations of each and every taxpayer.

Ms. Schugmann is a CPA licensed in New York, and has an MBA in Professional Accounting from Fordham University Graduate School of Business and a BA in Mathematics from Hunter College of the City of New York.  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and The Estate Planning Council of Rockland County, Inc.
